In a dimly lit Palm Springs bar, designer Ben Bloom sat restless, swirling his drink. He wished he could sip through a straw straight through the brim of his hat, an idea equal parts absurd and inevitable.

A magnesium fire erupted on a Beverly Hills stove as we heated our first branding iron. Because daring design demands a little danger.

We stepped onto the fashion stage, debuting at the Travis Taddeo Showroom in SoHo, New York City.

Our hats found their way to the Critics' Choice Awards in Santa Monica. A red carpet moment, if only the carpet hadn't been blue.
